bee and butterfly habitat fund
Every year more and more of the American Midwest is plowed under and turned into farmland for soy and corn. In 2017 Project Apis m. in partnership with the Bee and Butterfly Habitat Fund hired us to tell the story of how they are working with famers around Jamestown, North Dakota to plant beneficial flowers in the margins of agriculture to give pollinators like honey bees a better chance of survival in an increasingly hostile environment.

amor catracho
In 2018 we motorcycled up to the town of San Jose, La Paz in the high mountains of Honduras to film the story of Vinda Morán and her 6 acre coffee farm. The name “Amor Catracho” represents Vinda’s love of her country and her farm. With our help in making a video and a website Vinda hopes to encourage other travelers like ourselves to visit her town and experience what life is like in a small village world renown for its coffee.

project apis m. varroa field trials
One of the most promising areas of honeybee research is the selective breeding of queens that demonstrate the ability to rid their colonies of varroa mites. In 2017 Project Apis m. in partnership with the USDA Honey Bee Lab, hired us to film the field trials of these queen bees in active commercial bee colonies in North Dakota. The highly technical nature of the trials required us to focus our attention on the simple yet critical counting, weighing, and measuring of the colonies and to make science appear on video as important as it is on paper.

clever octopus
The issue of what to do with materials once they have served their initial purpose is a question being answered by the non-profit The Clever Octopus in Salt Lake City. In 2019 we filmed a short promotional video to encourage artists, teachers, and community leaders to support the efforts of this wonderful organization to divert waste away from landfills and back into use. Waste isn’t dead!

ancestry DNA Benin africa
Kieron Graham, an AncestryDNA customer, was adopted, and last December through an AncestryDNA test connection, found out his brother was a student at the same college with the same major. In the time since, Kieron has dug deeper into his family history. Scott traveled with Kieron back to Benin, Africa to film his connection with his ancestors and the country of his birth-mother.

The nature conservancy half moon reef
The Nature Conservancy is working to restore Half Moon Reef, an underwater oyster colony in the heart of Matagorda Bay, Texas. We filmed barges stacked with rocks from Missouri being unloaded by heavy equipment into the Gulf waters, and interviewed the scientists whose dream of revitalizing an overfished waterway was coming to light. The goal to recreate the failing oyster beds of the gulf coast has implications far beyond anything we will live to see. It is truly a project of the future.

blue lapis light
Scott has been working with the Austin based aerial dance company Blue Lapis Light for over 10 years. Creating beautiful, emotional videos that faithfully recreate each site-specific performance has been Scott’s greatest challenge and pleasure. This video is for fundraising to help Blue Lapis apply for grant money, reach out to donors, and engage with the public.

b-sharp youth music program
Thanks to the Goff Family Foundation the B-Sharp Youth Music program is giving kids a chance to learn how to play musical instruments from professional musicians in a free after school program in the Dallas-Forth Worth area. We filmed students taking classes over the course of a week culminating in the annual performance at the Bass Performance Hall. Watching kids learn a sophisticated skill at such a young age was the best part of this job.

The mission of the Komen Foundation to support women undergoing treatment for breast cancer comes with a high cost. This video was shown at the annual fundraiser gala and helped raise over $600,000 for the Central Texas chapter.
